About Us

The barties.com website came about after noticing that there was no other website of its kind in Australia.

Searching around out there we found that there were other sites, but no sites that held ‘live’ stock in house.

We decided it was time for consumers to be able to order exactly what they saw on a website in real time, right now and have it sent to their door today…

All of the barties.com products are in house right now ready to ship to you today !!

Our staff have been involved in the moto and skate industry for over 30 years, so we know our stuff…Here’s just a bit about us, enjoy…

Dave Bartie - No Time to Grow Old!

Name -

Dave Bartie.

Born -

1953.

Where -

Yarram, Gippsland. Vic.

First Bike Memory -

Was about 7 years old living in Yarram, I jumped my sister’s bike until I broke it!!

Live Now -

My family moved to the Gold Coast in the 1960’s, I went to Surfers Paradise State School and then off to Miami State High.

Since moving up from Victoria I have always loved living here, you can’t beat all the different environments in south east Queensland, especially what  the Gold Coast has to offer. You can be in the bush riding one moment and within a 30-minute drive be diving into the ocean, we have it all here.

When did you start racing?
I was 17 years old when I started and I finished at 19.

What was your ride?
Honda XR 100 - 1st race.
Honda XL 125 - Got bored out to 150cc bike for 2nd race. (Supplied by Gold Coast Honda.)
Yamaha MX125 - 3rd race. (Supplied by Southport Yamaha.)
Suzuki TM 125, 250 & 400 – for the next three races. (Supplied by Donny Pask Suzuki.)
Suzuki RM125 & 250 – for the next three races. (Supplied by Donny Pask Suzuki.)
Also road raced a Honda CB 750/4 and enduro rode a Mach 4 750/3 Kawasaki.

Why did you finish racing after only two years?
I was on the track racing one day and on the side lines as I was racing past, I saw Joan holding our new baby, Jamie in her arms. I thought to myself “I can’t do this anymore!” and decided to stop racing and put my new family ahead of racing.

After racing?
With  growing young family and a 6am to 6pm commitment of driving Bobcats the family soon grew to four with Chad’s birth. As the boys grew up Joan and I supported them in anything they chose to do leading us straight into BMX.
While living in the Nerang caravan park the local BMX club was formed across the creek and the bug began. Jamie on his little black dragster with Chad in hot pursuit would be riding around it from dawn till dusk coming home of an evening with skin torn from hands, elbows, knees, ankles (from three piece cranks with cotter pins) and toes.

With an emerging and growing BMX club I volunteered my Bobcat to help form the track and turn it from its cow paddy single loop into a full scale BMX track.

As the club grew it became obvious to start selling BMX parts and associated products. This led to selling products at local meetings out of the van and in future year’s circus sized tents.

The highlights of the BMX era were the involvement with certain team and individuals that are still strong 30 years later. Peter Wort, Paul Addams, Andrew Hassan, Brian Pearce and the Pro Sight Team.

As Jamie and Chad grew older new interests came along, and skateboarding was the one that they fell in love with. With two decades behind us now, Jamie runs his own skateboard brand and Chad lives in the USA skateboarding professionally.

“Barties Bikes” in Nerang evolved into “Barties Deck Head Skate Shop” at Nobby’s Beach and now “Barties – Hazardous Sports” in Burleigh Heads.

Being involved with Action Sports and retailing its products for the past three decades has been and still is a very special part of my families’ lives.  We have to thank our original customers wherever they are in the world for supporting us for thirty years and their referrals that have helped us grow and look after all walks of life from BMX, Skateboarders and Moto X there really is “No time to grow old…”

Jamie Bartie - My First Memory

My first memory of being a Bartie goes back to 1973 when I was the ripe young age of 3 months. (Well actually, it isn't a memory only stories told to me by friends of the family.) The location was Clear Island Waters motocross track out the back of Mermaid Beach, which now no longer exists but is a man made canal.

It was my first real life experience of Action Sports and it was to be an experience, I think that has moulded me into the person I am today.

You see, my father Dave, other wise known in those days as 'Stretch' due to his wiry 6.6" frame, was racing  for local Suzuki dealer Donny Pask. Donny ran and owned the Gold Coast’s only Suzuki dealership in those days from a premises at Mermaid Beach. From 3 months  of age, I used to go  along to watch Dad race in the Queensland motorcross races all over the place.

From these very first experiences and subsequent ones, I have had the fortunate privilege to be not only a keen observer and enthusiast but a keen participant in many Action Sports ranging from racing BMX, to surfing, mountain biking, dirt bikes and skateboarding. If there is one thing that us Barties have always done well, it is to be ACTIVE!

Action sports for my entire life have been a daily routine for me. I have been encouraged to embrace an active lifestyle since being a ‘little tacker’, whether it be skateboarding, surfing, or mountain biking to work, it doesn’t matter.

Now older and a dad to my own children, I am proud to say that I am adding to this family tradition by encouraging my kids to be active in much the same ways as my father and mother did with me. All three of my kids enjoy the outdoor life and all that this beautiful country of ours has to offer, whether it be early morning skate park sessions, riding our bikes along the esplanade or surfing… we are all active together.

No matter where you are from or what your background the Barties encourage each and everyone of you to get involved in an Action Sport of your choice, one that puts a smile on your face and takes you to a place were all is forgotten, even if it is just for a short time!  At the very least it is so important to have that release, that outlet, where you can do what feels best for you.

The Barties.com is a place where all Action Sports enthusiasts, no matter what their age, can converge at one place with others who enjoy similar interests in sports and most importantly, "Just have a go, no matter what their ability or skill level."

Welcome to your web site! We are here to offer you the tools required to make your involvement in Action Sports as easy and simple as possible.

Please make use of the product feedback opportunities  provided on site for each and every product we sell.

Above all, we want to encourage and create a clear and transparent forum for
website users to actively participate in. We welcome your feedback !!

Welcome to the THE BARTIES.COM.
